Black Carbon Fibre Ballpoint Twist Pen

Ok so this pen is cheating a little... it wasn't turned by me. I bought the blank as usual from one of my suppliers looking for something that was a little different being carbon fibre. You can even get them made out of coffee beans or discarded snake skins! I was expecting the carbon fibre tube to be set in a rough cast of acrylic ready for turning in the usual way but it arrived already turned and bar a bit of polishing it was ready to assemble. It's still quite a unique and eye catching pen though.

After the peace and quiet of a few days at the bottom of the Lapworth flight came the well known decent down the Hatton flight to the outskirts of Warwick. Originally a flight of 21 narrow locks in 1799, the whole flight was upgraded in 1932 to wide concrete locks and a different type of paddle winding gear that needs 24 turns of the windlass on each corner instead of the usual 4/5. We left the boat in Saltersford arm for a few day and caught the train to Poole to see our daughter. It was only a couple of locks and a few hours through Warwick and Royal Leamington Spa to get to our next stop in between the two canal side pubs of Long Itchington.

Pen #343 was finished and assembled in Long Itchington on July 22nd 2015.
