Beefwood and Chrome Fountain Pen

BEEFWOOD - Grevillea striata

Beefwood, from Western Australia, is a medium to dark reddish brown with lighter reddish grey rays, (perhaps giving it a visual similarity to raw beef: hence the name). Like other woods that exhibit the strongest figure in quarter sawn pieces, (such as Sycamore), Beefwood has the most pronounced figure and displays the largest flecks when perfectly quartersawn; this is due to the wood’s large medullary whose layout can be seen the clearest when looking at the end grain.

This pen was turned on July 11th just past Sale. It would be the last airing for the lathe for a while as we were headed into central Manchester and then on to Poole in Dorset to see our daughter for her birthday.

  1. Beefwood and Chrome Fountain Pen
  2. Lots of boating, then a train to Poole via London...
  3. ...and back to Manchester to see the sights
